Supporting Food Security in Africa

Africa’s food security challenges disproportionately affect children and vulnerable groups, including women, the elderly, and marginalized communities. Malnutrition remains a leading cause of child mortality, with millions of children experiencing stunted growth, developmental delays, and poor health due to inadequate access to nutritious food. Vulnerable groups, who often depend on subsistence farming, face compounded risks from climate change, economic instability, and systemic inequalities that limit their ability to produce or access sufficient food.

Girl Power USA aims to provide nutritious meals to children, boosting school attendance and learning outcomes.

Girl Power USA supports the Breakfast Program through resources, helping expand its reach and integrating sustainable agriculture to address food insecurity in Kenya.

How We Are Changing Lives

volunteer_activism

Supporting the CYAN breakfast program will increase school attendance rates and provide a nutritious start to the day for the children.

Teaching women sustainable farming techniques, supporting local agriculture, and improving food security.

Establishing a sustainable food supply chain linking local farmers with schools for long-term community growth.

Hurdles In The Way

  • Hunger leads to stunted growth, cognitive delays, and weakened immunity in children, making them vulnerable to diseases. Adults face chronic health issues and reduced productivity, further hindering their ability to escape poverty.

  • Hunger affects school attendance as children often skip school to work or due to fatigue. Those who attend struggle to concentrate and learn, perpetuating the cycle of poverty by limiting future opportunities.

  • Chronic hunger reduces workforce efficiency and economic output. Additionally, reliance on subsistence farming, coupled with resource scarcity and climate challenges, worsens food insecurity across communities.

What We Have Achieved So Far

Girl Power USA collaborates with the Breakfast Program for food insecurity solutions, providing nutritious meals to children and supporting local agriculture. The initiative integrates sustainable solutions, including bee farming, mills, and small agricultural processes, to boost productivity and economic inclusion.

We aim to train community members, especially women in advanced farming techniques, empowering them as leaders while improving household food security. By addressing both nutrition and economic development, this program enhances school attendance and learning outcomes and fosters long-term, sustainable growth in rural African communities.
